Hand Traverse

Definition of a Climbing Word

By Stewart Green, About.com

Hand Traverse

A hand traverse is when a rock climber moves horizontally to the right or the left, supporting most of her weight on her hands and arms rather than feet. Usually the climber’s hands will be on good holds or in a horizontal crack, while her feet will be on tiny edges or smears.
